Donald Rutledge is a minor character who is mentioned in both Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask and Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. He wrote a book called Ancient Histories, and did large amounts of research into the Mask of Chaos and the Azran civilization.

Plot[edit | edit source]

Pre-Game[edit | edit source]

Donald Rutledge wrote his book, Ancient Histories, when researching the Azrans. By comparing various notable archaeological sites, including the Stone Circle of Pleynoth, he discovered a universal factor linking them all: the name 'Azran'. Having discovered this ancient civilization, others expanded upon his work, including the paleontologist Doris Pompitious. Rutledge also cataloged the Mask of Chaos, and the Mask of Order as Azran artifacts.

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask[edit | edit source]

Rutledge's work was mentioned by Professor Layton's teacher, Mr. Collins, in Layton's school days. Although Layton's friend, Randall Ascot, tried to convince Mr. Collins that he had found the true Mask of Chaos, Mr. Collins scorned this. He did, however, admit that had Randall done so, he would have been a legend in the archaeological world, as Rutledge was, in his day.

Later, Rutledge was mentioned as someone who had identified the Mask of Order, as various parties, ranging from Professor Layton, to Leon Bronev, and the Masked Gentleman, attempted to locate the Mask.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy[edit | edit source]

When Professor Layton, Emmy, Luke, and Desmond Sycamore, having managed to recover Aurora from Targent's clutches, examined the ruins underneath the lake, in Kodh, Sycamore mentioned Rutledge's work, and his research into the Azran civilization.
