Douglas Dert is a character appearing in Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy and its anime adaptation. He is a reporter for the London Times.
Biography[]
Appearance[]
He is a large, top-heavy man with auburn thick eyebrows and hair mostly covered by a brown cap. He wears a matching vest over a black necktie and a white shirt with thin black stripes, black square glasses, dark brown pants, white socks and black shoes.
Personality[]
As a reporter, Douglas is always looking for scoops. He takes pictures of absolutely everything he sees with his camera, which is most notable in his in-game animations.
Plot[]
Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy[]
Dert makes several minor appearances throughout the game, in cases 1, 2, 4, but most notably in Case 7: Ratman Returns. He tells The Layton Detective Agency that he has been tracking down all of Ratman's appearances since a year ago, following after him every time he appears. But he never gets to interview him as Ratman disappears as soon has he's done solving problems.

A roving reporter from the London Times who's always looking for a scoop. But he doesn't seem to have worked out who Ratman really is yet.
Trivia[]
- His name is a pun of "dug dirt", in reference to his occupation as a reporter.
- His name in the Spanish version, Francis McWendall, is a spoof of the real-life journalist and politician Francisco Marhuenda. Marhuenda also bears a physical resemblance to the character.
- His role is quite similar to Lotta Hart from the Ace Attorney series.
