"Unlike some people, I base my deductions on hard evidence. Facts and figures."
— Emiliana Perfetti

Emiliana Perfetti is a recurring character appearing in Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy and its anime adaptation. She works at Scotland Yard as a criminal analyst, specializing in profiling. She regards Katrielle Layton as an arch-rival.

Biography[]

Appearance[]

Perfetti has very dark brown, mid shoulder length hair which appears to be somewhat frizzy. She is always seen wearing circular glasses, a grey-blue skirt and blazer, orange ribbon and dark boots. Emiliana carries a thick, dark green book at all times, which she is seen to consult during the puzzle solving animation.

Personality[]

Since she is an adept criminal profiler (described by others as a "genius", as well as earning the "title" of "genius analyst"), Emiliana is very logical, only relying on cold hard facts. It is for this reason that she dislikes Kat's 'gut'-reliant methods.

Somewhat surprisingly, she is terrified of the supernatural.

She claims that she likes watching movies to unwind between her work, however this seems to be something of an understatement as she entered the competition to win tickets to "No Sub for Love" hundreds of times although she denied this. She is also hinted that she is a fan of romance (and the actor Leonardo DiCameo), which she also denied.

She is described by her co-workers as a "severe" person, and they are surprised when she shows her more considerate, soft side.

Mintan has a crush on her, but it seems Emiliana does not reciprocate these feelings.

Millionaires' Conspiracy[]

Emiliana first appears in Case 2: Murder on the Thames, where she meets Katrielle. Her deduction of the River Thames double murder-suicide case is that Tim was actually the culprit and made some people push Vic into the river, then he jumped off by himself, to cause both deaths. However, Katrielle deduces that the crime was actually an act, which turned out to be true as confirmed by Mayor Pipper Lowonida.

In Case 3: The Stolen Kiss, Emiliana attends the premiere of Maverick D. Rector's romance film "No Sub for Love: A Naval Advance" at the Saveloy after winning a ticket on a competition. The movie is abruptly cut in the final scene just as the protagonists were going to kiss. Phineas T. Barnone, the owner of the theatre, requests Katrielle and Emiliana to investigate what happened. Emiliana thinks that Eddie Torre might have removed the scene from the film, as he was not pleased with it. But Katrielle discovers that the true culrpit is Seymour Fraymes and his pet myna bird The Major. The bird defecated on the movie reel, and Fraymes cut off the stained section because he didn't bother to fix it.

In Case 5: Ghost Busted, Emiliana accompanies Katrielle, Ernest and Shell to the Wight Residence to investigate the mysterious curses that inhabit within. Although quite scared, she proceeds with them. Both end up finding out that all of the curses were just made-up by Liza Wight to seek people's attention.

In Case 8: Goddess of the Thames, she aboards the Thametanic along with the gang and Inspector Ercule Hastings. When the statue of the Goddes of the Thames goes missing, both Emiliana and Katrielle compete on who can solve the mystery first. She loses when Katrielle exposes Captain Midas Pullman for trying to steal it along with the rest of the ship's crew.

She also appears in Case 11: Katrielle Layton: WANTED! and Case 12: Diamonds Aren't Forever.

Profile[]

Millionaires' Conspiracy[]

Emiliana

Scotland Yard's genius criminal analyst who's especially adept at profiling to identify the culprit in any case. For some reason, she sees Kat as an arch-rival.

Trivia[]

  • It is heavily hinted that Emiliana is at least part Italian. Her name has Italian origins, and she states she has "Italian blood" at one point. She also often uses Italian phrases when she is speaking, such as "va bene", which translates to "all right" or "okay".
    • However, she has also used the word "non" to mean "no", which is French, not Italian.
    • This only appears to be the case in the English localization. In the Japanese original, Geraldine is never referenced to be of heritage different than British.
  • It is also possible she may have some Indian lineage, since she recalls her mother having made tandoori chicken, a traditional Indian dish, for her when she was a child.[1]. However the prevalence of Indian cuisine in the United Kingdom is worth considering as a factor.
    • With this, it is possible that her mother is Indian and her father is Italian.
  • "Emiliana" has the meaning of "rival", whereas "Perfetti" is a reference to her "perfect profiling".
  • Her official Japanese profile for Layton's Mystery Journey describes her as "a first class profiler in London who has earned the title "genius analyst". Geraldine plays the role of Katrielle's rival".
  • Her rivalry with Katrielle is reminiscent of Professor Layton and Inspector Chelmey's.
