Joseph is a character appearing in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. He owns the Photo Studio in the ghost town of Folsense.
He responds in a rather unhelpful way when Layton asks about how the photos on the wall stay so pristine, even though they are over 50 years old. He simply says that he has no special methods, but that photos he has been taking recently have been coming out different from what he sees...
When Layton and Luke leave the mine, he approaches them and tells them to go to the castle. He says he was once a servant of the Herzen family, but had run away, and that he feels that Duke Anton will never forgive him. He adds that he thinks Folsense is coming out of the nightmare it has been in for so long with Layton being there. He leaves, and disappears along with the illusion of Folsense.
At the end of the game, it was revealed that Joseph, along with the rest of Folsense and its residents, turned out be an illusion created by a gas coming from Herzen Castle. The real Joseph existed fifty years ago, the illusion of him disappears when the castle collapsed clogging up the hole where the gas spewed out.
