Layton Mystery Detective Agency: Kat's Mystery-Solving Files is an TV animation of the Professor Layton series, serving as an adaptation of and sequel to Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy. It premiered on April 8, 2018. A report in Q3 2017 suggested it would have a 2018 release with 26 episodes,[1] while a later announcement by a Singapore-based distribution company lists it as having fifty 30 minute episodes.[2]

Plot

Set during and after the events of Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy, the anime follows the adventures of Katrielle Layton, her assistant Ernest Greeves, and Sherl, a talking dog, in a variety of cases both brand new and taken from the game.

The official website describes the premise of the anime:

"Professor Layton's daughter, Katrielle Layton, runs the Layton Detective Agency together with the talking dog Sherl and her assistant Ernest, and solves strange cases that happen everyday in London. Originally, she started the job with the purpose of finding her father, Hershel Layton, who had disappeared suddenly, but her incredible ability to solve puzzles made her well-known and she receives numerous requests."
