— Lucy on her first day at the Mystery Room, Layton Brothers: Mystery Room

Lucy Baker is the main character from the Professor Layton series spinoff game Layton Brothers: Mystery Room. She is a new detective constable, and assistant of Alfendi Layton, with whom she works for Scotland Yard's "Mystery Room".

Profile

Appearance

Lucy has fair skin and light brown short hair with longer sides framing her rounded face and bangs covering her forehead. Her eyes' shape is oval and is colored a deep crimson.

She usually wears a green blouse that resembles a military jacket with golden buttons. It has belts and buckles as accessories on the hem of the sleeves and on her hips, on which she puts her Scotland Yard badge on. She wears knee-length white trousers and beneath it, a grey stocking which covers her calf. Her shoes are rounded white and brown pumps with white shoelaces.

She always wears salmon colored newsboy cap, and is never seen without it, though sometimes it moves slightly every time she jumps in surprise.

Personality

Lucy is shown to be a highly optimistic and confident character. She does not shy away when faced with mistakes and troubles, always willing to do for the better and tries her best to solve any problem or crimes. As Alfendi commented himself, Lucy is also proven as a character of good intuition, and displays great curiosity and willingness to learn new stuff. It also appears that she is very straightforward in expressing her feelings or thought.

Despite that, she sometimes display stubbornness and recklessness, often jumping to conclusions and acting ahead without thinking of any risk and danger. Alfendi called her a "daredevil" - a statement worded without compliment.

Lucy has a strong sense of empathy, even when threatened with grievous danger or spoken to rudely by those she empathizes. As Alfendi would put it later, Lucy never failed to "see the good side of people" - again, he did not word the statement as a compliment, given the context.

Plot

In the beginning , Lucy worked her day into the Scotland Yard while being scolded by Deputy Commissioner Chan for not listening to him. She commented that her mind is indeed being somewhere else and tells him the good weather of the day being a good omen on her new career. The Deputy Commissioner does not seem impressed by that and told her that she's going to work in a place that's probably going to close soon, but she replied him that the said place is the place where all unsolved mysteries goes to. Later, the Commissioner came into their conversation telling her that she is assigned to a very talented inspector whose deductions are known as one of the best in the New Scotland Yard. After that, she rushes into the Mystery Room, leaving the two men behind, with the Deputy Commissioner doubting the Commissioner's decision regarding her placement.

Case 001

as Lucy arrives to the office with no one inside, she practiced her act of pinpointing the suspect with the late Alfendi Layton as her subject. The man seems confused by the sudden accusation. As Lucy apologized, she introduced herself to be his new assistant. He told him that she needs to learn a lot and he'll show her the way. Thinking of the man as his mentor, Lucy decided to call him 'Prof'. However, Alfendi seems to disagree as his father is a real university professor, and he hasn't yet to decide whether Lucy gets a permanent position as his assistant or not. To that, he gives her a case in which she must solve to prove her worth to him.

Trivia

  • Revealed in a conversation between herself and Dolly Hollerday, Lucy is 22 years old.
  • Her speech pattern always replaces the word "was" with its plural "were". An example of this is "I were miles away" as opposed to "I was miles away". It is inferred from Lucy's diction and vocabulary in the game that she speaks with a Yorkshire accent.
  • While Lucy's hair matches a light brown, in the case 'Who Killed Pig?' if you choose Cat as the culprit, she will call Lucy a 'dozy ginger', suggesting Lucy's hair is supposed to be red, or at least reddish.
