Later on in the game, the kidnapping of Babette's little "boy", Tom, happens. However, Babette gets so worried that she doesn't tell them that her "boy" is in fact a dog, but since Layton and Luke do not know that, they try searching the train for details about a small boy (together with Inspector Chelmey and Barton). After finding enough clues, they work out that Tom is a dog, and continue the search with this information in mind.
Eventually, they hear that a strange girl with a dog was rushing in the corridors and went to the back of the train, so Layton and Luke decide to head there to ask her about Tom.
