The additional abilities of Administrators include:
- Deleting and undeleting pages, page histories, and uploaded files.
- Locking (protecting) a page so it cannot be edited or renamed by users without admin rights.
- Blocking users from editing; and very quick "rollback" of undesirable edits.
- Editing the interface by changing system messages and skins.
- Several other abilities, see Special:ListGroupRights for the full list.
A Bureaucrat is a user that manages Administrator and rollback rights on the wiki. They can promote users to Administrator, Rollbacker or even Bureaucrat. They can also take away Administrator and Rollback rights, but not Bureaucrat rights.
They are generally seen as the leaders of the Wiki, and often make big decisions.
Staff, Helpers and VSTFEdit
Some Wikia staff members and helpers have full access to all Wikia wikis. They will be shown in Special:Listusers/staff and Special:ListUsers/helper on any Wikia wiki. VSTF members have limited administrator access to all Wikia for cleanup purposes. These users will be shown on Special:Listusers/vstf on any Wikia wiki. Please see Help:Contacting Wikia for details on how to contact Wikia staff.
On This WikiEdit
The "founder" of a wiki, the person who created the wiki, and is given Administrator access automatically. Founders are also given Bureaucrat access so they can make any other users on their wiki an Administrator or Bureaucrat. For a complete list of users with Administrator access, see Special:Listusers/sysop. Bureaucrats can be found at Special:Listusers/bureaucrat.
Being an AdministratorEdit
How do I use Administrator abilities?Edit
See Help:Administrators' how-to guide for a guide on using admin functions.
Becoming an AdministratorEdit
If you wish to become an Administrator on the Professor Layton Wiki, you may make a request to a Bureaucrat of the wiki. The active Bureaucrats and Administrators will then discuss your request, and eventually approve or reject the application. The user making the request must be active and have made several edits, else the request will be immediately denied.
What can Administrators not do?Edit
Administrators should not use their administrator rights to settle editing disputes; for example: to lock a page on a version he or she prefers in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Administrator rights should be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in. Ideally an admin shouldn't be considered "in charge"; the ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of the Wikia community.
