Usage Guide[]
This section shows all places on the wiki where the codes can be used.
Disambiguation[]
Sometimes, two puzzles across different games have the same name, but don't refer to the same exact puzzle. In this case, the game code is appended to the page title in parenthesis.
For example:
- Puzzle:Hat Trick (DB) - For the puzzle in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
- Puzzle:Hat Trick (LS) - For the puzzle in Professor Layton and the Last Specter
This technique may also be used for other types of pages, such as characters, locations, etc.
Infobox appearances[]
The "appearances" and "game" parameters of the various infobox templates on the wiki make use of game codes to quickly and accurately show a list of installments. Rather than having to manually enter the names of the games with the correct link and in the correct order, you may simply provide a list of valid game codes, and the wiki will take care of the rest. More details about this can be found on the template page of the infobox (for example: CharacterInfobox) and Module:Gamecodes.
Linking to pages[]
All game codes exist as a page on the wiki, which will redirect to the article of the associated game/installment. For example, CV will bring you to the page of Professor Layton and the Curious Village. It should be noted, however, that the wiki prefers to always link to the correct page directly, so this is more of a convenience thing when navigating by editing the URL in your browser.
Game codes can also be used to quickly navigate to a specific puzzle page. In this case, you can simply add the full puzzle number directly after the game code. For example, the article CV001 automatically redirects to Puzzle:Where's the Town?.
Shortcut Template[]
Template {{Game}}
can be used to quickly expand the game code to the correct name:
{{Game|CV}} -> Professor Layton and the Curious Village {{Game|DB|}} -> Diabolical Box
PuzzleData modules[]
The wiki stores most of the infobox data for its many puzzle pages in Lua modules. These modules are named after the respective game code, and nested under Module:PuzzleData.
For more information, see WikiProject Puzzle.
Maintenance categories[]
Each game code exists as a hidden category page on the wiki, which is used for maintenance purposes. Every page related to a specific installment is directly added to these maintenance categories, no matter how small the link. This includes the game page itself, all locations, all characters that appear in the game, etc. By using these categories, it is easier for eg. automated bots to find lists of pages to run specific maintenance scripts for.
