Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is an upcoming puzzle / fantasy adventure video game in the Professor Layton series. It was announced for the Nintendo Switch during a Nintendo Direct presentation on February 8, 2023[1]. The game was later featured during LEVEL-5 Vision 2023 on March 9th[2], revealing some new information. The puzzles of the game are designed by QuizKnock, a group specialized in creating riddles for various media.

Plot[]

A year after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, Luke has moved to Steam Bison, a city in the United States of America that is full of steam engine technology. He is faced with a new mystery and sends a letter to Professor Layton to seek for his help. Once Layton arrives, Luke quickly gets to him while steering a two-legged steam-powered vehicle, and urges the former to get on, saying that they cannot stay there.

At a later point, they look for the city's inventor Mr. Eggmuffin, at his workshop.

Trivia[]

  • Solving a hidden puzzle on the official site by clicking on Professor Layton's silhouette in the background will show a hidden popup with two downloadable wallpapers.
  • The game seems to take inspiration from Steampunk, a genre of science fiction where most technology is powered by steam engines instead of electricity.
  • During the original reveal of the game, the title was stylized in a way that "the" was capitalized while "steam" was uncapitalized. This was later changed to be more in line with the rest of the series.
