Here's a painting of two players in fierce competition over a game of cards.

At first glance, nothing seems strange, but occasionally people remark:
"If they're really in fierce competition, isn't this part of the painting strange?"

Imagine yourself sitting at the table. Notice anything unusual.

Look closely at the two gentlemen playing cards. If people think that one has no idea what he's doing, he's probably doing something strange.

Take a close look at the cards being held by the player wearing the blue shirt. The location of the numbers on the cards is a clue.

Where are the numbers printed on playing cards? They're not on the top-right or bottom-left corners...

Think about where the numbers are located, and look at how each player is holding his cards. One of them is doing something you probably wouldn't do if you'd ever played any game of cards.

Too bad!

Don't be misled by unimportant details.

US Version

The numbers are usually printed on the top-left and bottom-right corners of playing cards. The gentleman wearing the orange hat is holding his cards in such a way that he can't see what three of his cards actually are.

UK Version

That's right!

Cards usually have their number displayed in the top-left and bottom-right corners.

No matter how badly he wants to win, therefore, the player in the orange hat is going to have a hard time seeing his hand if he's holding his cards like that.
