147 - Room of Doom148 - A Groovy Lever149 - Exit on the Left

A Groovy Lever is a puzzle in Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. The puzzle must be solved in order to progress the story.

Puzzle

Luke and Layton don't know it yet, but they've just found a hidden lift. Activating the lift is a matter of pulling the lever from the top of the grid down to the bottom, but there's a complication. The groove the lever slides down is rotated out of alignment.

Can you help put the groove back into place so our heroes can pull the lever and activate the lift? Touching a yellow circle rotates the squares surrounding it 90° clockwise, but you can only do this six times.

Hints

Click a Tab to reveal the Hint.

This puzzle is likely to require a bit of trial and error, so try pressing the buttons and see what happens. Remember that your goal is to create a path from the lever to the bottom of the grid in six moves or fewer.

If you need a hint to get started, try pressing the rightmost button in the top row twice. That should put you well on the way towards the answer. Also, keep in mind that the lever's route should be fairly short.

Following Hint 1, press the top-left button twice.

After following the previous hints, you'll only have two moves remaining...

Time for a big hint: The lever travels in a straight line from the top of the frame to the bottom. Think carefully about which buttons you need to press to create a groove that runs in a straight line.

Are you having trouble following Hint 3 and working out what the two final moves are?

Well, the first of them is to press the leftmost button on the middle row.

Once you've done that, you should be able to see which button needs to be pressed to give you a straight line running from the top of the grid to the bottom.

Solution

Correct

Groovy!

There's more than one way to solve this puzzle, but it's unlikely that our heroes are worried about that just now, because the lift is here! It's time to proceed to the upper floors...
