Blasted Plank (Hanging Platform in the UK version) is a puzzle in Professor Layton and the Last Specter. The puzzle must be solved in order to progress the story.

Puzzle

US Version

You can't proceed because of a large gap here. Drop the metal sheet hanging above the gap to make a bridge!

Try different combinations of the dynamite sticks of differing strength to destroy the four pillars holding up the metal sheet. Match the stick to the appropriate pillar. For each match, you will see a crack in the pillars.

Place the dynamite and push the red button when you're ready!

UK Version

There's a large gap here that prevents the group from going onwards. Bring down the metal platform hanging above the gap to create a bridge!

Using four dynamite sticks of differing strengths, destroy the four support rods holding the platform. You'll have to work out which stick of dynamite needs to be placed on which rod.

Hints

Click a Tab to reveal the Hint.

US Version

First try placing the sticks from left to right in this order: green, red, yellow, blue. None of them should hit. Now try red, green, yellow, blue. This time, there should be one crack in the pillars.

You now know that either the red or the green stick was correctly placed on the last try. Repeat this process of elimination until you find the correct order.

UK Version

First try placing the sticks from left to right in this order: green, red, yellow, blue. None of them should hit. Now try red, green, yellow, blue. This time, there should be one hit.

You now know that either the red or the green stick was correctly placed on the last try. Repeat this process of elimination until you find the correct order.

US Version

Continuing from Hint 1: Try swapping the green and yellow so that the order from left to right is: red, yellow, green, blue. This should result in two cracks in the pillars.

You now know that the red stick belongs on the pillar farthest to the left. You also know that either the yellow or the green stick was correctly placed on the last try.

UK Version

Continuing from Hint 1, try swapping the green and yellow so that the order from left to right is red, yellow, green, blue. This should result in two hits.

You now know that the red stick should be placed on the leftmost rod. You also know that either the yellow or the green stick was correctly placed on the last try.

US Version

Continuing from Hint 2: Swap the yellow and blue sticks so that the order from left to right is: red, blue, green, yellow. This should result in one hit.

This tells you that all placements but red are incorrect, which means that the yellow stick of dynamite must belong on the second pillar from the left.

UK Version

Continuing from Hint 2, swap the yellow and blue sticks so that the order from left to right is red, blue, green, yellow. This should result in one hit.

That means all placements but red are incorrect, which means that the second rod from the left must pair with the yellow stick.

US Version

Once you know where to place the red and yellow sticks of dynamite, the rest should be easy.

You already know that the blue stick doesn't belong on the far-right pillar...

UK Version

Once you know where to place the red and yellow sticks, the rest should be easy. You already know that the blue stick doesn't go on the far-right rod...
