Lighten Up 3 is a puzzle in Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy.

Puzzle

The preparations for the town carnival are almost complete. Now it's just a case of hanging the decorative lanterns. You'd think this would be easy, but actually you've been given some very specific instructions:
"No lantern may be placed on a street that already contains a lantern. And under no circumstances may a beam cross another beam of the same colour."

Can you position the lanterns according to these rules and still light every street in town, all the way from one end to the other?

Hints

Click a Tab to reveal the Hint.

There are 28 places in which lanterns may be placed, but don't let the size of the map put you off. Just remember that no street can contain two lanterns, and things will be much easier.

You might want to start by positioning the lanterns to make sure all streets are lit up, then work from there.

There are six horizontal streets and six vertical streets.

Place your lanterns on these streets one by one, ensuring that you don't place two lanterns on the same street.

Keep going like that and you'll eventually get closer to the answer...

You'll want to place one of your pink lanterns halfway along the bottom of the map.

The other one should be placed on a street near the centre of the map.

Following on from Hint 3, the green lantern goes somewhere near the bottom-right corner of the map. Since you already have a pink lantern on the bottom street, there are only a couple of spots left for the green one to go in. You need to work out which of these two spots is the right one.

Once you have the pink and green lanterns in the right places, all that remains is to place the yellow ones!

Solution

Incorrect

Too bad.

Check carefully that there are no places where the beam from one lantern cuts across a beam of the same colour from a different lantern.

Correct

Well done!

Look at the lanterns reflecting off the surface of the lake. Glorious!
