Sharing the Burden 2 is a puzzle in Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.

Two porters have to carry two pieces of luggage of unknown weight. Each piece weighs a different amount, and they both weigh at least 10 lbs. Their total weight is 40 lbs. or less.

Each porter can carry up to 20 lbs. at once, and they want to carry both pieces of luggage in one trip.

How should they carry the luggage? Put the luggage in their hands, and then ring the bell.

Start by having them hold the luggage in as many ways as you can think of. Perhaps you'll come across the solution.

It appears that even if the porters take one piece of luggage each, they won't be able to carry both pieces. What to do, then?

One fact you should bear in mind is that in all, the to pieces of luggage weigh 40 lbs. or less.

One of the pieces of luggage must weigh more than 20 lbs. That's why it's impossible for the porters to take one piece each.

Is there some way the porters could work together to carry the luggage?

Why not try placing both pieces of luggage right in the middle, between the two porters, and then ringing the bell?

What do you suppose will happen?

The solution is for them to share the load. Teamwork is everything!
