There's a special way to arrange these jewels. Can you work it out?

(1) Viewed from the north, the diamond is to the right go the ruby and the emerald is to the left of the sapphire.
(2) From the east, the emerald is to the right of the diamond.
(3) From the south, the ruby is to the left of the sapphire.
(4) From the west, the sapphire is on the far right, the ruby is on the far left, and two jewels lie between them.

Hints

The cardinal directions north, south, east and west correspond to the top, bottom, right, and left of the board respectively.

You'll have a hard time if you just look from one direction at a time. Try combining two points of view at the same time when working this one out.

Try starting with clues (1) and (3), which describe the view from the north and south.

Don't forget that when you're looking from the north, the right-hand side will be west, not east.

According to clue (1), the diamond is west of the ruby and the emerald is east of the sapphire. Clue (3) tells you that the ruby is to the west of the sapphire.

By combining these two clues, you can work out the order of jewels from west to east: diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald.

Clue (2) tells you that the emerald is to the north of the diamond. Clue (4) tells you that the sapphire is the farthest to the south and the ruby is the farthest to the north.

Based on this, you can work the order from north to south: ruby, emerald, diamond, sapphire.
