Target Practice is a puzzle in Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.

A police officer was doing some target practice one day. The target was divided into sections worth 5, 35, 40, 75, and 100 points. After five shots, his score totaled 100 points.

How many times did he manage to shoot each point section?

Click a Tab to reveal the Hint.

He made 100 points in five shots.

Let's imagine he hit the 75-point section once. That leaves 25 points to make up. He could get 25 points if he hit the 5-points section five times, but that would be a total of six shots, so that's not the answer.

Try some other combinations of shots.

You've probably realized that it takes more than five shots at the target to reach a combined score of 100 points.

Hmm... Is there a way to score a number of points other than by hitting the target?

Just because the officer fired five shots doesn't mean they all hit the target.

In other words, it's possible for him to score 0 points with any given shot.

Do you see the answer now?

If a shot were to miss the target, the officer would score 0 points.

Can you use that to make a total of 100 points out of five shots?

Maybe the officer is just a lucky shot!

Too bad.

Are you perhaps off the mark a little?

He hit the 100-point section once.

He's either a hotshot...or a not shot.
