084 - Potion Placement085 - The Phoenix Wakes086 - Reggie's Slidy Ride 2

The Phoenix Wakes is a puzzle in Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. The puzzle must be solved in order to progress the story.

Puzzle

To open the sluice gate, the puzzle embedded in this panel must be solved:

"Bound by the chains of eight moons, the phoenix shall remain asleep. Only with the power of the star stones may these chains be severed. No stone can be connected to a stone whose number is one higher or one lower than its own. Once the chains are severed, the freed phoenix will awaken."

Place the stones according to the given rule and end the phoenix's slumber!

Hints

Click a Tab to reveal the Hint.

The stones marked with five and six stars are fixed in place, so the number of slots where the seven-star and four-star stones can go is limited.

Start by thinking about those stones, and take it from there.

Try placing the seven-star stone to the right of the five-star stone, and the four star-stone to the right of the six-star stone.

If you do that, you'll have a slot between the four and the seven into which the only stones that can be placed are the one or the two. Choose a stone, place it in the slot, and see how far you can go.

Place the one-star stone in the slot that was mentioned in Hint 2, between the four and the seven. You'll then have the two, three and eight left to place. None of these, however, can be placed in the slot to the left of the one-star stone because of the stones that are linked to those slots.

Ignore this for, now, though, and place the eight to the left of the one. Then you'll need to move the seven to the far right.

The stone that goes into the slot vacated by the seven is either the two or three. Look at the stones that surround this slot and it becomes apparent that it must be the three that goes in there.

Once you've placed the three in its correct position, all you need to do is slot in the final stone and all chains will be broken.

Solution

Correct

Stellar work!

The power of the star stones has freed the phoenix and put an end to its slumber.
