Puzzle

US Version

Traps were set at every intersection in town. That night, every time the specter passed an intersection, that spot was marked with a red X.

Knowing that the specter never hits the same area twice, Luke had a revelation.

"I've got it! I know which way the specter went!"

Which way, A to H, does Luke think the specter went? Circle the letter.

UK Version

Traps were set at every intersection in town. All the intersections that the spectre passed are marked with a red X.

Knowing that each trap went off only once, Luke had a revelation.
"I've got it! I think I know which way the spectre went!"

Which way does Luke think the spectre went? Circle the letter, A to H, nearest to the last trap that the spectre sprang.

Hints

US Version

Every spot with an X is an area the specter had to have passed before he left the town.

Anywhere there isn't an X, the trap wasn't sprung. Therefore, the specter didn't pass there.

UK Version

Every spot with an X is an area the spectre had to have passed before leaving town.

No traps were sprung at any intersection without an X. Therefore, the spectre didn't pass these places.

US Version

Look for intersections where the specter could only go one way.

Keep in mind that while each intersection has streets going in three or four directions, the specter could only have passed through it once.

UK Version

Look for a route that takes you through each intersection exactly once.

Every intersection has three or four streets going from it, but the spectre must have used just two, one for entering the intersection and one for leaving it.

US Version

Here's the first part of the path the specter took:

Starting from the red X in front of where the specter appeared, it moved down, down, left, up, left, upper left, left, down, left.

That left it in front of H.

UK Version

Here's the first part of the path the spectre took.

Starting from the red X in front of where the spectre appeared, it moved in the following directions: down, down, left, up, left, upwards left, left, down, left.

By this point, it was in front of H.

US Version

From the X in front of H, the specter went up, up, down right, down right, up right, up left, up right, and up. At that point it was in front of B.

Next it went right, down, left, down, right, and down.

The rest should be a piece of cake!

UK Version

From the X mark in front of H, the spectre took the following route: up, up, downwards right, downwards right, upwards right, upwards left, upwards right and up. This put it in front of B.

Next it went right, down, left, down, right and down.

The rest should be a piece of cake!
