Two Numbers Water Buckets Trapped Treasure

Water Buckets is a weekly puzzle in Professor Layton and the Last Specter.

Puzzle[]

You must first fill up the buckets from a nearby spring and carry them back to your garden so you can water your plants.

You have five different-sized buckets. On each trip, the weight of the buckets in your right hand must be the same as those in your left hand. You must move a total of 52 gallons in three trips.

If bucket A holds three gallons of water and bucket B holds four gallons, how many gallons does bucket C hold?

Hints[]

Click a Tab to reveal the Hint.

If you add all the buckets carried over all three trips, you get this equation:

3A + 2B + 3C + 4D + 4E = 52 gallons

Since you know that A holds three gallons and B holds four, it figures that:

3C + 4D + 4E = 35 gallons

Whith this in mind, take a close look at the buckets carried on the first trip.

Solution[]
