Shmarton (Barmey in the British version) is a character appearing in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. He is a member of the Family. His character is a parody of Barton, who has a similar name, look and behavior. He is often with his "bruv" Shmelmey. He and Shmelmey are found a few times during the game later on, and a lot of people actually mistake them for brothers. Such spots include the research facility, the towering Pagoda, and Chinatown.
Shmarton is seen first with Shmelmey when Layton and Luke go to the gate to Chinatown. Luke's parrot must mimic Bostro's voice in order to get them to leave. Later they are seen in the warehouse area of Chinatown in the north. Even more later they are inside the towering Pagoda. Future Luke solves their puzzle and Layton and co. advance another level of the pagoda. Later on, in the research facility, near the end of the game, they are seen another time and are knocked down and out by a heavy crate.
- US Version
Shmarton is an underling of Bostro's who looks remarkably like Constable Barton and eats like him too. He hangs around with his brother Shmelmey and is useless without him. He is a regular customer at Pepper's Noodle Palace.
- UK Version
Barmey is an underling of Bostro's who looks remarkably like Constable Barton - and eats like him too. He is so useless without Chelton that he might as well be his baby brother. He is a regular customer at Pepper's Noodle Palace.
