Witch Trials (also called "group trials"[1]) are the trials that will take place in Layton-kyōju VS Gyakuten Saiban. Phoenix Wright will have to defend his client, Mahoney, who has been accused of witchcraft.

Details

In contrary to the games of the Ace Attorney series, there will be no cross-examinations but evidence is still used. Instead, Phoenix has to take on a group of witnesses directly[1]. It is important that Phoenix watches all witnesses when interrogating them, as they may react to other people's testimonies through facial expressions[2]. Witnesses can join or leave and discuss things among themselves whenever they see fit. It is shown in the trailer that spectators of the trial will sometimes start shouting out of nowhere. The result is a more chaotic game play, which is used to show how a trial in the middle ages would be like. This new game play system is referred to as "Gunshuu Saiban" (lit. Mob Judgement).
