Professor Layton and the Aslant's Destiny[]

Chapter One: Unbelievable Truths[]

The two circled each other carefully. Layton knew this time would eventually come; it was a matter of who would turn out to be the victor. He watched them both, hardly daring to draw breath.

Layton and Luke watched in nervous wonder. Two people, so different, yet so alike. Opposite in personality, near identical in skill, ready to lash out at the other at any second. They had both remained expressionless, until he cracked a sly smile.

"Really, Amilea? Of all that could challenge me?"

She kept her steady stance. Unwavering, like a panther prepared to pounce. Suddenly, she broke the circle and stopped. And smiled. Her laugh, almost friendly in agreement, erupted and echoed through the ruins.

"Of course not. Who do you think I am, silly?" Her abrupt playful manner was unnerving to Layton and Luke.

She scurried towards him, and quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. He hugged her back, even if it was only a pat on the shoulder. Clearly not the man of the hugging type in any situation. But not a lover's embrace. More of a family cuddle. Family...

"Hey, what's going on? 'Amilea'? What?"

She turned towards Luke, evil grinning carved in her pretty features.

"Sorry, little assisstant," She hissed. To acknowledge Layton, she craned her neck to one side. "And you too, professor."

Luke gazed in crushed confusion at her. Layton merely stared, the cogs of his mind working furiously, deciphering the circumstances.

"What is the meaning of this?" The professor asked, exasperated from shock.

He smirked as she spoke.

"Oh, did I forget to mention? My true alliances, professor?" She spat the word 'professor' as if it were venom on her tongue. "Remember how I said I learned everything?"

Layton gasped. It all made sense. He was-

"My uncle, professor. It's all whirring away in your head. You can't bear the thought, can you?"

She turned towards her uncle wih a curious look. Light sarcasm in her voice, she said, "I think we should go now, do you think we should go now?"

Reciprocating the sarcasm while withdrawing a crystal white sphere from his pocket, he agreed.

"Yes, yes, I think we should."

Conversation ending, he threw the sphere hard down on the ground, creating a thick smokescreen.
