- This article is about the purely cosmetic game mechanic from Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy. For the similar mechanic from Professor Layton's London Life, see Outfits
The Wardrobe is a feature in Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy. This function, accessed from Katrielle's bag, allows to change Katrielle Layton and Sherl outfits, and it is a form of customization alongside Fengshui for the Layton Detective Agency's office.
Depending of the version of the game, more outfits could be purchased by exchanging Fashion Farthings, as extra DLC purchases, or by unlocking them via external methods, such as completing the puzzles of Layton's Mystery Journey: Real World Puzzle Solving when it was available.
In the Deluxe Edition of the game, all of the previously downloadable content outfits, both paid and free, as well as Kat's pyjamas which was previously exclusive rewards from the Real World Puzzle Solving campaign, are now included in the base game; furthermore, 53 new outfits for Katrielle (totaling 73) and 3 new outfits for Sherl (totaling 4) have been added. However, most of Kat's outfits are re-textured versions of the 20 previously-existing outfits. Furthermore, the availability of Kat's outfits differ between the Japanese and international versions:
- In the JP version, 51 of the new outfits can only be unlocked through scanning "Nazotoki charms", real-world NFC toys that are purchased separately. Scanning a charm will unlock a matching outfit in-game, and Kat will wear a 3D model of each charm somewhere on its corresponding outfit. Additionally, each Nazotoki outfit in the wardrobe menu displays a small 2D image of its corresponding charm.
- In the international version, all Nazotoki-exclusive outfits are included in the base game at no additional charge, although they first must be "downloaded" from the internet, through Accept outfit data. The charms are still displayed on the outfits and in the wardrobe menu in-game, but with no indication of what they are.
In the Mobile and 3DS versions, certain outfits are bundled together with special puzzles; a list of these conundrums can be seen here. These puzzles were completely separated from the outfits in the Deluxe Edition, having their own unlock condition of having a certain amount of Picarats and completing Case 12. Special Puzzles do not reward Decor Dockets when completed.
Fashion Farthings[]
The Fashion Farthings are a form of currency, hidden away just like a regular Hint Coins that can later be exchanged from new Outfits.
Due to its increased number of outfit, in the Deluxe Edition, 4-6 extra Fashion Farthings are rewarded each day as a Daily Bonus. Furthermore, the hidden Fashion Farthings are now grouped in groups of three.
